Mixed Summer League
This league was formed in 1985. It's principle function is enjoyment in a relaxed atmosphere. For sure, a competitive edge still exists but not a win at all costs attitude. It was the first mixed league to be formed, it's number one rule being that each side must field a minimum of four women, each team consisting of twelve players. Originally, there were eight teams in the mixed league, but that makeup has increased to twelve. Although there is a desire of other teams wanting to join the mixed league, the secretary's of the twelve teams have resisted the need of forming a second division. However in 2011 resistance to divisions evapourated and now there are two divisions of eight teams. Currently, we enjoy the sponsorship of Coors for division one and Greene King for division two. There support is greatly appreciated. Players of all abilities are encouraged to play. And in so doing, certain skittle rules, such as the motte rule, are not strictly enforced.
The summer skittle season begins in mid March and concludes in October although the presentation night takes place in November. There are three main competitions at stake; the league, the John Pegg knockout Cup.and the ledger, however other competetions exist so that other teams have a chance of winning something, these competitions being the consolation cup, the ledgerette, ledger 3, ledger 4 and the ledger base. In additions there are a two-a-side, a three-a-side and four a side competitions plus a whack up trophy for men and women. When all skittles are knocked down with the first two cheeses, this is called a whack up. The person who achieves the most number of whack ups in the league games in a season takes home a piece of silverware. Finally, there is a special prize for anyone who throws a nine-in-a-ball, this has occured on average once per season.
The league is currently sponsored by Coors. for Division 1; Division 2 is known as The Paul Cockayne Cup

The Ledger
In skittling terms, ledger means accumulation and consistancy. Originally, the four top teams of the ledger league qualify for the final. However in order that all teams can play in a final, the qualification rules have been adjusted. Qualification At the end of the league season, the sides finishing in the top three places will qualify for the ledger final. Teams thats finish in positions four to seven inclusive will compete in the ledgerette and the bottom three teams will take part in the ledgerbase. League match scores to count only, the third leg scores of the twelve-a-side format to be recorded, each week the 3rd leg score will be added to the previous weeks 3rd leg scores, should teams end the season with the same tally, then the side involved in the tie that has recorded the highest 3rd leg twelve-a-side score will attain the higher final placing. Final Rules For The Ledger, Ledgerette And The Ledgerbase. The objectiveis to accumulate as high as score as possible in each of the five legs. Each score in the respective five legs will be added to give an accumulative tally. Winning a particular leg is not the prime objective. Rules; A minimum of four women per team, each team starts with a nil scoreline, order of play to be drawn out of a 'hat', at the end of the 3rd leg each captain can alter his/her teams compostion but not it's line up, at the end of the five legs, the team with the highest total score shall be declared the winner. In the event of a tie
Three names of players of the teams involved to be drawn out of a 'hat' and play a three legged accumulative score ledger. Should there be a further tie then two names of other players of the teams involved to be drawn out of a 'hat' and play a three legged accumulative ledger. Should there be a further tie then one name of other players who have not been involved to be drawn and play a three legged accumulative score ledger. This one player process to continue until a winner has been found. |
Clements two-a-side, three-a-side and four-a-side competitions.
Since the leagues formation both competitions have been sponscered by Clements. However because they no longer manufacturer skittle tables, pins or cheeses they have decided not to sponsor anymore. Even so, because Clements gave us the support when it was most needed the competitions remain under their name
Rules: Two-a-side; each team to consist of either two women, or one man and one woman only.
Three-a-side; each team to consist of either three women, or two women and one man, or two men and one woman only.
Four-a-side; each team to consist of two women and two men only.
