| Table Skittles is a traditional Leicester game, which has developed for over 100 years from the old English pub game of Hood Skittles, and has a large enthusiastic following. Table Skittles consists of four components, one table, nine skittle pins, three wooden 'cheeses' and a motte. The skittle pins are made of cuts of beech or apple wood. The cheeses are made from a harder wood called Laburnum. The motte (the area from which the cheeses are thrown) is positioned 9 feet from the front skittle pin. It is 9 inches wide at the front, 18 inches at the back and a minimum of 11.5 inches above the floor. Both feet should remain within the motte when throwing. The object is to throw the three cheeses, one at a time from the motte and known down as many pins as possible. The cheeses must be thrown from the front of the hand, skimming is not allowed, and must also be thrown underhanded. |
